Google play services and parental control

I came across a very interesting problem this week.

I have parental controls implemented on the android mobiles of the kids in order to responsibly teach them about the usage of the phone etc. but we ran into some problems when I installed a new galaxy smart watch.

The system didn’t want to add the watch and I realized that it was failing when Samsung tried to add a Google account to its app.

Of course there’s no error messages so I tweaked and I saw that nearby devices were denied for Google play services.

I don’t trust this because it asks access to everything and there’s no transparency whatsoever to what it does exactly.

Enabling it allowed adding the watch to the mobile but it makes me wondering about the real privacy we get from our android mobiles.

Food for thoughts
